Well my last weekend of 5th Edition is rapidly approaching, BOTCH is here!

Battle of the Chumps (better known as BOTCH) is a friendly (ish) tournament that I was excited about before 6th even poked out its little head. But what makes this even so different I here you call? Well a couple of things I shall now explain.

First of all it’s played at 3 different points levels. You submit a 1000, 1500, and 2000 point list; each must build on the last. Then 2 games are played at each points level escalating along. This really gave me some thinking to do when it came to writing my list, I couldn’t just go and grab my standard 1850pts list and rock it out. We’ve had to change it up a bit (shock horror, we fear change!)

Second…. there is comp! I know this is something that we have shied away from in the UK, but is pretty common around Europe and down under in Oz. I suppose this might stem from the fact that the tournament was originally setup by Neil Kerr (his excellent blog can be found here), a member of Flame On who hails from Sweden (where comp is in effect at all tournaments), sprinkled it in. It’s nothing too drastic, just along the lines of, you can’t have more than 3 of the same unit, special characters take up 2 force org slots that kind of thing and certainly nothing to complex.

Third… I’ve grudged Gary Marsh in the first round for a Yorkshire/Leeds United faceoff. I always have a great game when I play Garry, but to say the number of events we have attended together I have only play against him a couple of times. Something tells me Sambuca and Tequila will be involved.

I’m taking my Black Templars, so a fairly standard Dual Cyclone Missile launcher affair, broken down into chunks to fit the scoring system, and strangely enough I didn’t have to alter it to fit the comp (well by much anyway).

This isn’t a ranked event as the emphasis is primarily on having fun! So I can’t wait to get a little messy this coming Saturday and give 5th Edition one hell of a send-off.
